The City of Vancouver has new enforcement measures to prevent COVID 19 transmission. The City can issue fines of up to $50,000 if the bylaw is broken. The by law also allows the City to impose $1000 fines.
City inspectors are checking that businesses are compliant. City inspectors have issued grocery stores and issued warnings. They recently visited more than 1,600 restaurants and identified 14 cases of non-compliance with the order.
Grocery stores are an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of people in stores at any time must be limited to allow for physical distancing. People must stay 2 metres or more apart.
Regent Security is providing crowd control grocery stores. Guards help manage crowds. They count the number of people in stores and limit the number of people entering so stores remain in compliance.
